Ape Accounts (ERC-6551)
Every Ape is more than an image — it's an on-chain account that owns what it's earned.
Each Based Ape has its own token-bound account, deterministically derived from its token ID via the ERC-6551 standard. The account's address is known before it's ever deployed — assets can be sent to it immediately, whether or not the account contract itself has been created yet.
Based Ape Gang runs its own self-deployed ERC-6551 registry rather than pointing at the shared canonical deployment every other project uses — a faithful port of the actual standard's reference implementation, just under the project's own control. Any standard-compliant account implementation works with it unmodified.
Ownership follows the NFT
- Whoever holds the Ape controls its account — automatically, with no separate transfer step.
- Sell the Ape, and the buyer inherits everything already inside it: distributed stock, burn history, activation status.
- The Ape isn't a claim ticket — the value is genuinely inside it, which is what makes it worth something on the secondary market beyond the art.
What lives in an Ape's account
Tokenized stock the Vault has distributed to that Ape, plus anything else its owner chooses to hold there. Over time, two visually identical Apes can become radically different assets — one built through heavy burning, backed by real distributed value; another left untouched since mint.
